I just called 5 star and talked to them. They said the key turns is how Ford tracks it. I know someone said that earlier but wanted to report that info in.

Yup that was what I posted.

Interesting. Well, whatever it may be, Ford has to be able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the tune is what caused _______ to fail, otherwise, it would be covered. Initially they won't play ball, but after a quick letter/call from an attorney, they'll change their tune and just take care of it (cheaper than stringing it out in court, unless you're an *******, and then they'll take it to court, drag it out, and then you'll be out a ton of money).

Yeah goodluck with that. Wishful thinking on how it "should" work. You'll be out thousands trying to prove it otherwise and they've got way more money and more lawyers and more experience doing this exact thing.

So 5-star caused my Raptor to lose its virginity and popped its diode. I'm telling the dealer I tried to say no! :hump::rofl:

Seriously, as far as the key cycles... well who's to say what kind of program you were using? If you just modified the factory tune because you're running 37" tires, and you only altered the tire revolutions per mile to correct the speedometer reading...v/s running a 93-performance tune...how could the dealer tell the difference?

They wouldn't know what was changed, but they would know that with the key cycles reset, that the owner was tampering with the PCM. Whether it was a simple tire revolution change, or pulling in a full tilt kill mode tune. Since you can have Ford program a proper gear ratio or tire ratio, etc. they aren't going to give any slack if you try to say you only used a programmer to change tire sizes for your speedo.

This goes right back to both sides being correct. Ford can't see exactly what you had changed, but they know you tampered with something, and for denying a warranty, that's enough for them.

What boggles my mind is why there is any expectation whatsoever that Ford honor its powertrain warranty on a tuned truck. It's just not reasonable. You tune your truck, then man up and take responsibility for your actions. Pay for the repairs. You don't want to pay for the repairs? Then don't tune.

Amen. I'm getting ready to go SC'd and if I blow the motor or tranny apart so be it.

It's funny as I told a tech what ZBoater said last night as they drove me home. I broke an axle shaft in the rear end on my fx4. I didn't come run crying for warranty.... i bought a 200 dollar used shaft and repaired it lol. It gave me a good look at the E locker in the process as I pulled my carrier and dismantled it. Just proved I didn't want that thing in there and the Detroit I ordered is a better unit.

I have however been fighting for an a/c issue. Sure my truck has been tuned... I dont care. Neither have any of the dealers it has been at as of recent. The one today finally called me and said they found a refrigerant leak in the cab... so hopefully my stench issue and poor a/c performance is solved. Much better than the dumping crap down my vents like the other dealers.

If you want to play learn to pay. If you don't, then leave the truck stock.

ok then I will ask it again to see if there are any new opinions. What tune should I buy for my raptor. I don't offered much. Just something safe that will make her faster, run more fuel efficient if I decide to let off the pedal, and also to maybe help it tow.

Im just looking for something not too evasive that won't mess the truck up like causing the tranny to start to shift hard.

Hey man, i have 5 star tunes and i love them. I ran the 87 perf tune for a while, and it was a nice tune good power. With that said some people complain about the throttle being a little touchy, but you honestly just get used to it. The only time i ever got a hard shift is going from 5-6th, with the loud pedal pushed through the floor lol. But i am seriously debating giving JDM a shot. Maybe give them a call and see what they say. I honestly dont think either one is a bad choice. I have never really looked into SVC or talked to them so i have no opinion there. If you have anymore questions about 5star i would be more than happy to answer them.
