How did this happen? What where the circumstances when the engine failed - idling in the driveway, steady speed down the highway, WOT off road? The rest of us would find this information interesting if not educational. Also, what service did you give the truck between the time you took delivery and when it failed?

I went to pass a car to get into the turn lane, and it died at the light.
Started right back up and then the knocking sound from under the hood.
I drove it about 100 foot to get out of the road and parked it and called the tow truck.
Previous owner was a Coast guard officer who bought it new, (not likely and officer from Miami coast guard trashed it ).
How ever i was able to get a look at the entire history from Ford including all the warranty work. The truck ran with out issues until it hit 65,809 miles on her.
New motor from dealer, than again at 66,281? new motor??
in between they also had a break issue and new everything all around , courtesy of Ford.
Even bigger issue is NONE OF THIS was on the CarFax, and i called them and emailed them to ask why (so much for buying with confidence) :flipthebird:

Any warranty or service work done at the dealer should be on or reported in the system, Unless Ford or the dealership didn't want to report it???

I would like to call Ford customer service and see what they have to say about this (will probably give that a try next week).

Possible solution

Yes i bought a 2012 crew cab with 69k on it .
Had it for 6 days and it blew up:mad:
So what's my options for a new motor or is the original motor worth tearing into?

And yes for the one's that will ask ; it stalled at a light after passing a car, nothing stupid , just a down shift and then stopped at the light . Truck started to run rough stumble and died. Started it back up and started to make bad noise.
pulled over and found knocking from where i can only imagine was from the top of the motor???

Man that sucks. On the upshot it may be the ideal time to upgrade the internals if the block is OK. If it dropped a valve then you will need a piston, and head for that side. Rebuilt might take longer but you could come out ahead in the end. I don't think I would trust the ***** for that work though.
its always cheaper to replace, rebuilt will eat up a lot more cash up and you will end up chasing gremlins. BTW this is the first time I see a catastrophic issue with the 6.2

The replacement motor caused the odometer to run backwards?

Buy cheap and cheap is what you will get. Just because it costs less does not make it equal. Ask yourself how is it that two of what is supposed to be the same motor can differ in cost of three or so thousand dollars. Maybe there is a reason his motor only lasted about 300 miles.

Thanks Braaptr; i can get a complete long block for 4500 ish + core at 800

Debate ; it should have red 65,821 ( fat fingers i guess) .

Will get more info next week on what broke or just fell off (rocker is a guess)
either way i will get her fixed and down to Baja this year even if it kills me. :driver::driver :LOL

Anyone put bump stops on your rig yet?
Chase/tire rack to be delivered next week :High 5:

So after a semi long haul; I finally found out what the problem was with my motor.:mfr_omg:
A workmanship issue was the cause, (Thank you Ford of Kenai Alaska & Sound Ford of Renton WA).:shitsweak:
The first dealer used the old manifold off the 1st engine that had a rod come apart (thus putting bits and pieces all thru the motor). new motor with old manifold ; that motor lasted less than 2k, New motor same old manifold (mind you they never cleaned out the old manifold). Motor #3 previous owner still having issues , and his local dealership going ti*'s up; has it barged to Seattle and this is where Sound Ford comes in. Rather than cracking the valve covers or even popping a plug or 2 to see inside the cylinders.:slap:
One of there managers drive the truck for a few days and reports to the old owner its fine and there is no issues.:flipthebird:
Well the same old manifold was on there dropping bits and pieces of the last motors failures and some pieces went thru the motor and some didn't ( Thus my personal dilemma). 4 cylinders affected, a rocker arm was pulled off and setting beside the place where it should be and so on.
Now complete new short block , new heads and Yes A New Manifold... :big_banana_Dance:
Hopefully it will be done by next week so i can continue planning on my BAJA trip in March :wizcow:

I hate jacklegs. For god sake it would have taken the same amount of time and cost less to have done it right the first time.

True that a 500 dollar part cost Ford 15k in labor at least and 4 motors complete at 5k a pop, so in total 35k +or-
Seems very stupid to me
