Roush Raptor Oil Pump failure and Resurrection

I do know a couple of Florida guys pushing a whipple and a roush(700+hp) that don't have that oil pump upgrade who have had no issues yet. And from our offroading, they push their trucks hard.
Think it's a good insurance mod as a just in case.
if not going for max power I like the Roush better also. although the Gen 3 whipple is "supposed" to run a lot cooler there is just no info on it yet. FL is hot as you know the bigger heat exchanger with fans will be something you want but I am sure you know that if all your buddies are running big power off road. after your done post up what ever you decided to go with please.

I read all the oil pump threads but people like to repeat like parrots so I was wanting real info not just "hey get a oil pump gear" cuz I am not a sheep I will not follow blindly I want to know why. So far no one has said why! of coarse I am not saying its not right but I just want to know why.

Can’t give you the answer. That’s just what I have read doing research on a supercharger for myself. Call JDM I’m sure they could help.

I did ask him. he didn't say either way. he also said there are thousands of high mileage trucks running SC with no problems. he also mentioned the ones that did have it. pretty much no one knows and everyone is guessing and repeating you should but no reason why.
I do not "think" it is needed and prob will not do it. if my motor pops I will build a better one. I will cry while doing it but I don't think I will have any issues.

Guys - not sure where the skepticism is coming from. The stock oil pump gears are a known weak spot. Early tunes had faster/firmer shifting and the theory is that this created lash/shock that fractured the gears (and yes, this absolutely has occurred before). Since the newer tunes have less aggressive shifting, this hasn't been much of an issue and many supercharged trucks can and have gone over 100k miles without issue.

For me, the $500 was cheap insurance. For the record, I also plan to build a forged piston 6.6 when my motor gets tired (or hatches), that's one of the reasons it was built so aggressively (as a Whipple Stage 2+), but I don't want it to hatch because I was too cheap to put the right parts in my build.

Not sure why you think anyone who doesn't make or sell billet oil pump gears would give you bad info on this.

While not exactly mandatory seems like a relatively inexpensive mod thatís worth doing.

known weak spot? dont take this as me challenging you cuz I am not but the words you say are strong. id bet my life there at least 5 times the amount of trucks with no gears running around just fine than the amount of trucks with blow motors. its prob more like 100 times but not worth betting my life lol.

yes the gears are close to $500 but sense I have to pay someone to install it its more like $2000 upgrade. honestly if it was $500 I think your right id do it just because but its not according to this form its labor intensive. yes I will get a real quote from my installer just to be sure but personally I am not paying that for insurance. ill take my chance on the motor first.

of coarse I will not say theres no need to do this upgrade but saying its a must is not right either. its one of them things that we dont know enough about or I dont at least and no one is saying why still so thats not a must.

I wish I knew how many trucks here have SC on them and how many dont have the gear compared to those that do.

I also didn't find any recent posts about the gears blowing thats strange to me but again maybe I just didn't find the threads?

I got the gears from Livernois and it was $300 and the installation of all the gaskets and the gears at local performance shop was $650. I think its a cheap price for peace of mind.i don't try to convince anybody but it works for me.

@ROCKETW19

I'm not quite sure why you are questioning our input of doing the oil gear upgrade.
I've been around a long time on the forum, I have spoken with at least 50+ that have had their oil pump gears fail.
I know of I at least 30 stories from UAE where it has happen, mostly Roush with the Roush Tune.
While there is not much info on the internet but Fleet Trucks and Vans with the non-HO 6.2L have had oil pump failures because of misuse.

Read this over and if you need more explanation call them.

https://www.lmengines.com/mod-motor-oil-pump-failures/

Any serious engine building shop will tell you the same thing.

Ford OEM oil gears are brittle,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12ZNlGXwHv0
But hey, if you feel it's still a waste of money don't do it.
It's only around $10k to $12k to through in a new long block complete and installation and Tax if the gears do fail.
