Default AFE CAI Noise

So I just got a tuner and AFE CAI from 5 star... love the tune so far but the noise from the CAI is just too much.. Have I become my father?? haha

Seriously though if this thing started growling whenever I put the pedal all the way to the medal well that would work, but the slightest touch to the gas and its making serious noise... I don't recall this on my CAI on my duramax...did I install it wrong? If not is there something I can do to make it "ALOT" quieter?


If not to all that ...I have one for sale :P

I have an AFE on mine and I don't find it to be an overpowering growl, but it sounds pretty mean. It does kinda growl a bit from about 1/4 throttle on for me, but it doesn't get really mean sounding till the pedal is 3/4 - full throttle. It makes the truck sound mean enough that I haven't really felt like adding exhaust.

oh man i want to find the loudest meanest intake system i can find for mine. I also want a rear dual straight pipe exhaust, im after that mean throaty loud but not too overwhelming loud hot rod sound..
If only i could find out how to get this sound

The guys who have put cutouts on their trucks get a pretty nice sound out of it, but it's also pretty damn loud. If I do anything I'm going to go with a cutout and headers. That way it can still stay reasonably quiet for road trips, but be a beast when I'm out playing with it.

Yeah i looked into that. I dont want to change my headers yet. ill do it once the warranty finishes.

I have something that looks like a lid but for the life of me I couldn't figure out any logical way to make it fit... It also was a part that was not in the install instructions... Anyone have a pic of it??? How it installs??

If this would quiet it down I'm in!!

I did the Flowmaster super 44 muffler and thats ALL I need. Noise on command but tollorable on te road.

I guess I am my dad..... I do love this truck but with this CAI it reminds me of the time when I was 18 and took my 70 buick skylark with a 350, removed the air filter, and ran from Parker AZ to Blythe CA at 80-100mph with a buddy... that POS sounded like a NASCAR! haha

I am waiting to hear back from Mike at 5 star about this cover and whether it will make the AFE ALOT quieter... if not its for sale... or I guess when I reach 50 posts haha... stock Tires, Rims and AFE
