I installed Volants CAI last night. I know a lot of you had some questions about the Volant so heres a couple pics. Im not sure why they did it but there is a opening along two sides and one on the bottom. This may be a concern for those of you who do a lot of mudding or desert driving. Its pretty obvious due to the large openings that its more prone to getting debris directly to the filter. Since I do the majority of my driving on road this is not a problem for me. I was also a little concerned with it drawing hot engine air but for now Im just going to use it stock and see how it works before doing any modifications to it.

That said, there are a few positives. First off performance, I instantly noticed a increase in throttle response and overall gain in hp throughout all rpm's. Sound level at the intake is slightly more throaty, mostly at WOT but its not as loud as the Volant I put on my 04 ? Exhaust sound is also slightly more throaty. Oh, and the looks are hands down better than the stock, plus you are losing all the sound vibration chambers which collect heat and transfer it to the intake air.

As far as MPG, I disconnected the battery during install so it reset the gauge. I was getting a consistent 15 - 15.2 city driving so after a week Ill update with what Im getting.

Feel free to shoot me any questions. I ordered from Maryland Speed - http://marylandspeed.com/volant-col...-2009-ford-f150-pickup-54l-191546-p-2854.html The cost was $329.00 no tax no shipping and it shipped 3 hrs after I ordered it. Great company.

You do have to replace the coolant reservoir with this system, heres how I transferred the fluid. very easy.

This is such a sweet CAI that I'm seriously thinking about scraping mine.
I'm not to thrilled with mine sucking the hot air from the engine compartment.
LOOKS GREAT!
How do you like it so far?
Any regrets?

I wish they would hurry up and make one for the 6.2L. I am just wondering about mudding and if I take her out to the desert.

I love it, its been 2 days now and theres a definite increase in power.

A friend talked to volant and they said they were in the process of building one for the 6.2

Mud and sand may get to the filter because of the opening on the bottom. Its great because it grabs cold air from directly below but is also exposed to the elements. I guess you could seal it up, I think there would still be plenty of flow from the side opening.

I'm assuming that's a washable filter and if so is it oiled or a dry type filter?

Its a dry type, no oiling required, but its different than any Ive ever seen. Ill copy and paste the description.

NEW PowerCore® Filter: The PowerCore® air filter is the most revolutionary on the market. Manufactured by Donaldson® to Volant's specifications, the PowerCore® uses advanced Ultra-Web® NanoFiber® technology. This material is a high-quality synthetic, that won't deteriorate as easily as traditional paper element and cotton/gauze filter media, while also providing vastly improved filtration up to 99.99%. In addition, it's water resistant and never needs oiling. The PowerCore® works by directing air into the front of the filter, where it is channeled into its fluted design. The channels are alternately sealed, allowing air to enter through an open flute and forcing it to exit out an adjacent flute. This allows the air to be filtered in one pass through the Ultra-Web® NanoFiber® media with less restriction, allowing clean air to enter your engine for increased airflow and higher filtration efficiency. This technology allows the PowerCore® air filter to include a 4 year or 100,000 miles warranty when used in urban conditions.

Great write-up Ducati. As far as looks are concerned, that CAI is sharp!

I must admit, I haven't done much homework on these since there are still very limited options for the 6.2, so correct me if I'm doing it wrong, but as to the mudding/dust concerns, depending on the type of filter used, couldn't you just slap on a filter sock before you hit the dust?
