I wouldn't fill the chips ahead of the install. When you remove the wrap it could peel them off. I would install over the chips.Do all of your hood wraps cover the front facing edge of the hood to the top of the grille, and also if a guy has lots of chips, do they need to be sanded and filled prior to installing a wrap?
Yes unless someone asks me to send them a short hood , all of my hoods extend downward. In my experience the vinyl does a really good job at hiding most rock chips. Some of the larger ones may show their shape underneath but not as noticeable with out the wrap. I hope this helps with your decision. I wouldn't reccomend sanding them down.
