TSB 10-25-7: 2010 Ford Raptor 6.2L Engine Tick Noise with Engine Misfire Codes

I really need to get mine checked. It doesnt tick all the time but when it does it's quite loud...

6.2L ENGINE - ENGINE TICK NOISE WITH ENGINE
MISFIRE CODES P030X/P0316 - BUILT 1/18/2010
THRU 9/7/2010

2010 F-150
2011 F-250, F-350

ISSUE
Some 2010 F-150 Raptor and 2011 F-Super Duty 250/350 vehicles equipped with a 6.2L engine and built 1/18/2010 through 9/7/2010 may exhibit an engine tick noise accompanied with engine misfire codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308 and/or P0316.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Inspect the coil-on-plugs and/or ignition wires. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-07A.

a. If any coil-on-plugs wires and/or ignition wires were disconnected, reinstall and confirm noise is resolved.

b. If coil-on-plugs and/or ignition wires are not source of noise, proceed to Step 2.


2. Remove RH/LH valve covers. Refer to WSM, Section 303-10A.3.








3. Inspect RH/LH rocker shaft rollers for signs of surface deformation or fatigue. (Figure 1)

a. If damage is found, replace RH and/or LH rocker shaft. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01A4.


4. Inspect RH/LH camshaft lobes for damage.

a. If damage is found, replace RH and/or LH camshaft. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01A.

P0300, P0302, P0308 Trouble Code

Hi guys,
I just got the above trouble codes on my 2011 Raptor after the installation of a new engine. The previous engine problem history can be checked as per the below link.

btw. last time i just got a ticking noise without any indication of an engine problem on the dash board, i.e. no check engine sign. This time i am having the check engine sign but no obvious ticking noise but when i check the codes using a programmer i got the above codes.

maybe they didnt do something right when putting in the new motor. take it back and let thm deal with it

If this goes unnoticed for some time could this result in an engine failure?

Just had this code pop up and stay. Usually flashes and goes away. As usual, 4th gear WOT. Which cylinder is #6?

@pirate air or @The Macf I saw that you made a post in the subject thread a couple years ago. I've been getting intermittent flashing check engine lights while on the highway immediately after passing someone. The light flashes momentarily and then stops. During this time I don't really detect any noticeable difference in engine feel or sound, but then again I also have MBRP turndown exhaust so it's quite possible that I'm missing some ticking etc. I've checked using an OBD2 scan tool and also had Advance Auto check using their tool. No codes found. Any thoughts? I know a flashing engine light is usually related to a Type-A misfire, but I haven't seen any permanent misfire codes. I've got another scan tool on order that supports Mode $06. I'll see if there's any parameters that are borderline for being out of range. Otherwise, I'll probably need to drop my truck off at the dealership. Any thoughts?

Whenever I scanned it, there were no codes. I think it's just a temporary misfire. Check your secondary plug wires.

@The Macf I checked to see if my plug wires were loose, but I'll go back through and do a closer inspection to check for wear. What did you end up doing to resolve the issue? Replace the one or more plug wires. I guess I just wish I at least knew which cylinder or cylinders were misfiring.
