FOAM SEAL DETACHING BETWEEN INSTRUMENT
PANEL AND WINDSHIELD GLASS - BUILT ON OR

ISSUE
Some 2009-2010 F-150 vehicles built on or before 10/7/2010 may exhibit the foam seal detaching between the instrument panel and the windshield glass.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the concern.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the windshield glass. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-11.

a. Failure to follow WSM may result in glass breakage and/or seal damage requiring windshield glass replacement.


2. Using a plastic scraper, remove the remaining foam seal from the instrument panel (IP).

a. Care must be taken when using the plastic scraper so damage to the IP surface does not occur.


3. Clean glue residue from the IP sur[ace using Acetone and a clean shop towel.

4. Once the surface of the IP is clean and dry, prepare the new felt strip by removing the protective backing tape.

a. Remove only approximately 6" (15.2 cm) of the protective tape at a time during the installation to prevent possible contamination.


5. Start at the passenger side of the vehicle, align the forward edge of the Felt Strip to the forward edge the instrument panel and apply using light pressure to seat the seal.

6. Apply the remaining length of the felt strip along the forward edge of the IP.

7. Apply firm pressure along the entire length of the Felt Strip to fully seat.

8. Install the windshield glass. Refer to WSM, Section 501-11.
