have you stripped your lower skid plate bolts?

like a lot of you, i tend to use power tools when i can. i had to pull my lower skid while i was working under there and ended up breaking the nut clips that were used to bolt it in from the factory. this meant that i couldnt get my lower skid off because the bolt had threadlocker on it and both the nut and bolt were turning at the same time. after spending some time scratching my head and cussing, i found out how to get it off. first off, make sure you have the right wrench. the first time i tried this, i had my gearwrench and it successfully stripped the corners of the nut, making it harder with a different wrench. the nut is a 15mm. i used a craftsman wrench and even though both the craftsman and gearwrench were supposedly the same size, they were not. if you use the open end of the wrench you can get it on the nut inside the frame by inserting it in the opening near the lower control arm. then with another 15mm you can trun the bolt out. since i replaced my front bumper, i replaced the broken nuts with 2 that held on my original skid plate. its a great way to make use of old parts and also these have no nut the break off therefore eliminating the chance of having this happen again

Did the same thing this weekend with one bolt the front skid plate. Was just finishing torquing the last bolt and I heard the snap. I like to consider it a problem for later right now...as it is on there good. I will undertake the battle to remove it whenever that time comes.

I had trouble with the access cover they were rusted up and I used a t35 to get them out and its supposed to be a t40 so I ended up stripping the 2 top bolts. After some cussing I just took the whole plate off and cut the backs of the bolts off. Seems to work ok. But where can I get those replacement bolts at?

I've been meaning to just get regular non-Torx bolts for the little oil filter window, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Hmmm. I ran into the same problem when putting on my SVC bumper. Had to get to back power steering bolts (under lower skid) and low and behold one of them was stripped like this.

I just said to heck with it and took my grinder (I'm pretty handy with one) to the head of the bolt and ground it down till there was no head (took 30 secs and didn't even scratch the skid) and let the skid plate fall from the bolt then just pushed the bolt and but together through the frame.

I hate those nuts.

Yep. This stopped me in my tracks when I to do my headers. Spent 30-45 mins trying to get two bolts out of the lower skid plate. Had to use a pry bar and pull the plate down to get some tension and catch a thread.
