Got an email from my dealer asking me to come in and drop off a $500 check, sign my purchase order and send a copy of my drivers license to Ford in order to confirm my order of a Tux Black scab 801A. It's been a month since I "thought" I put my order in but now not so sure. I was told my initial priority number was now changed from a 15 to now a 10 so hopefully I get it before Thanksgiving. They are not cashing my check but rather just holding it. I can elect to tear it up or put it to the purchase so at least not out of pocket. Anyone else had an experience like this?? Apparently many large dealerships are putting fake retail orders in to stock their lot so Ford has mandated this new policy in order to curb fake orders.....

I've heard of this actually, but I think it's a dealership-by-dealership type policy. Many overseas buyers (China) try to purchase them and ship them overseas for a huge profit.

My dealer only required a $500 credit card deposit (fully refundable if I didn't accept delivery) and that was about it. Did it all over the phone, didn't physically sign anything!

i left $1,000 with my dealer and gave them my license for a photocopy. it shows them that im serious about ordering my truck. but it probably also tells them that they already have a sale and (most of the time) the vehicle wont sit on the lot. i personally dont mind leaving money with the dealer. i have record of the deposit so i know im covered in the rare case of something mysteriously happening.

I suppose that's what one would expect from a VERY small dealership in Napa Valley. I know everyone that has a raptor in the entire valley 09's -12. At least we're a small club up here....and some of the most amazing view off road you could imagine!

The purchase order locks me in for the minimal over invoice price for the truck and guarantees me the trade in value of my 09 Mustang GT even though I will have more miles when the truck comes in. Either way, I am getting a fair deal

Only ended up paying 200 bucks over invoice.

I put down $500 in escrow. The salesman asked their order-guy if he needed a signed purchase order, but the guy waved him off. I believe mine went through as a dealer stock request because that got it put in line to be built quicker (got a mis-build slot used on my pickup). They made a copy of my driver's license as well.

I'm paying $2500 under MSRP.. about $3k+ over invoice I think, but I'll have a lifetime warranty on the truck through the dealership provided I don't go too overboard on mods and bring it back there for maintenance. One of my coworkers just got his '03 F250 with 218k miles a new engine under the warranty so I assume it will work well for me.

I had to give $500.00 and my drivers license to order my 2011, Ford requires this to order their SVT vehicles where I live
