Replacing just the speakers

And to add to that, I read somewhere that the nav voice plays through the center speaker.

That is not so.

How do I know?

Because I forgot to plug the speaker back in when I buttoned it back up after I took the pics. Nav is talking to me just fine.

Ok, for the center speaker I pulled the trigger on a Kicker cs35.

They have DS, CS, and KS series. The KS is the most expensive, CS is middle of the road but can handle the most power. Just to say I didn't cheap out on the DS. . These speakers have a "low protrusion" tweeter, a fancy way to say the tweeter doesn't stick out. I shall find out Thursday whether this fits or not. Crutchfield says they don't. Oops.

I'll try to get the Polks swapped for some Kickers CS68s just to be the same all around, but Amazon hasn't acknowledged my order cancellation so if they ship I probably will stick with Polk on the doors. I'm tempted to leave the tweeters alone. Certainly will do them last.

Ok, so here's the list I ended up going with. Amazon was quick on the draw and I could switch my order from Polk to Kicker, but that ok. I listed both in case the Kickers work out in the center and sub and someone else wants to go that route. MSRP on the Polks is higher but buy price is lower than the Kickers. I'm putting this here so I don't forget to list them out later. I should be able to attempt this install Saturday and will report back my degree of success (or lack thereof). Wish me luck!

Me too. I think the Sony system is fine. However, leaving well enough alone is not my strong suit...

I'm $300 into this, which is the max I wanted to spend on a frivolous mod. My experience with car audio is that car manufacturers cheap out on the speakers. From what I've seen so far, Raptor is no exception. In the past I've replaced the speakers and experienced a mild but noticeable improvement. That's what I'm aiming for here.

The system is plenty loud for me now, so I'm not wanting new amps, and I'm not wanting to spend thousands. I've read tons of posts of people in the same boat, so I hope this helps.

This by no means is meant to replace or compete with a full audio system upgrade. If you don't like your current system chances are this won't make you like it. If you like your current system, this might improve it a little bit.

I just pulled the trigger on ordering the door speakers + adapters. Also I'm interested in hearing what you think about the 8" kicker sub!
