We go to Colorado almost every year from KS, usually the Estes area as it’s fairly close and I have a cousin in Denver. We went to the San Juan’s last June and it was absolutely worth the extra drive time. We did Last Dollar into Telluride on the way in from Denver, it was a nice warmup for what was to come. Next day we drove up to Bridal Veil falls and up until it turns into the one way. That was a tight turnaround at the top. We also drove up to Alta Lakes that afternoon. Day 3 we drove to Silverton over Ophir Pass and then drove to Lake City over Engineer and back over Cinnamon. That was a long day, more so because my wife was pregnant. I am planning to get back there this year and spend some time camping on the loop.

You won’t regret the extra drive time.

A couple from the jeep roads. The view north from the top of 13,000 ft California Pass. Then some third week of Sept fall color from the Corkscrew Pass road.

Nice, that is a good location, right down by the river. There will be more for you to do than you have time for, once you get there.

Hopefully we start getting some moisture around here. Sucks when they cancel the fireworks due to fire danger. Fireworks in the canyon are awesome! All you will need is a couple of chairs and a spot on the grass at your B&B.

Now that you have the lodging you might want a dinner reservation or two. They go quickly at the few good places. Steak and out west atmosphere including bar and piano player, the Outlaw. Best in town is the Bon Ton at the St Elmo Hotel, cozy and quiet. The food is great at both, both will fill up like the hotels... Get burgers at Maggies Kitchen no matter how long the line is. (no res.) All are located on main street.

Enjoy

BonTon? Really man? That place is pretty average in my opinion. I'd check out Brickhouse instead. Maggies is pretty good and the new Red Mountain Brewing is pretty good as well.

Brickhouse is just overpriced, not impressed.

Red Mtn Brewing, the brewery without beer?

We could do a list of "at your own risk" LOL
Beun Tiempo... used to be great
O'Brians... also USED to be good
Goldbelt... marginal at best but a nice patio?
The other brew pub with the upstairs patio, cool venue, crap food, no fries with my burger, just chips????

and thank the Lord they closed the Silver Nugget, worst ever, and I am too scared to try the Thai place they put in.

Mostly I eat at home, my wife is a better chef than most of the "professionals" around here.

Any insight into the offroad trails in Summit County (Breck, Keystone, Frisco/Dillon area)? Headed there in two weeks.

Went to Ouray the last two years and had an absolute blast (in my JK) on Imogene, Engineer, Corkscrew, etc., but I've been researching Summit Co. and there seem to be a handful of OK trails, but I haven't seen much...

Still just a handful I would guess. I lived there 30 years ago and we used to drive up from Keystone to Montezuma and access the trails. You can come over the top and down into Breckinridge. Great views of the ski area etc. Nothing like the interconnected trails in the Ouray area though. You should own a Colorado 4 wheel drive trail book. Lots of trails scattered about the state just a short drive in and around Summit.

Thanks. Will definitely order the book!
