Interesting math Greg. Makes me think a 10,000 pound winch isn't the end all be all.

It will be fine if you are prepared with proper equipment.. Snatch block will double pulling power by doubling distance of line pulled. So 30' of winch cable is effectively 15' or less.. So a rated winch extension and rated snatch block would solve this issue..

Correct, commonly referred to as a "Block and Tackle". When I was mountaineering, we did a Z pulley which was a 3:1 advantage. Great for pulling my fat ass out of a crevasse!

This is great, you all know your stuff. A lot of what I have learned over the years I have learned from an old marine who used to do a lot of this stuff on the big military equipment.

Agree, what you have in mind. I have a winch, used it twice, and already see areas for improving myself...

on the trail is a great idea, brakes up the important stuff.

PA, you coming?

Just a FYI after reading the pages on extraction, there will be someone presenting information and proper techniques as well as being present at the first extraction at a minimum.

We will go over some stuff before the run but the majority of information will be provided at the time needed depending on circumstances of extraction..

Please everyone remember like Mark says if you see something you think is unsafe speak up. That being said the Snoball Support drivers and the Safety presenter are the ones in charge. I just need everyone to know that there isn't going to be 20 people in charge. Otherwise we will be standing around for hours.

Support trucks have both tow and snatch straps if you are wondering.
