SVTOffroad is heading to Panamint & Death Valley to run some of the 'quicker' trails out there.

It's now set for the weekend of Oct 1/2/3

We're going to be based out of Panamint Springs, Motel/RV/Camping & lots of beer. http://www.deathvalley.com/psr/

Update 9/23/10: One week to go.....

Here's the current plan.....

Friday afternoon/Evening - run up to Aguereberry Point for the Sunset. On the way we'll stop at Pete Aguereberry's old place and the Eureka Mine/Cashier Mill.
Saturday - Titus Canyon - depending what time we get out of Panamint Springs, we'll optionally hit up some of the tourist spots in DV and the photo op ghost town of Rhyolite.
Sunday - The Darwin Loop. This should get everyone back to Panamint for lunch.

I'll be arriving Panamint Springs late on Thursday aftenoon, so if others are around on Friday morning we can hit up some other trails.

I'll post departure times for Friday once I've worked out the best time to get the sunset from Aguereberry Pt.

Comms: I'll have a 2m, CB & FRS/GMRS radios (and a Sat Phone)
Internet: Panamint Springs does have a satellite based internet connection, but it's bandwidth limited and can be flakey - however it's usually good enough to get voice Skype connections.
Gas: Panamint Springs has 24hr gas - occasionally they run out, but we'll be headed past gast stations on Saturday. The last gas before Panamint Springs, is Trona (when coming from the south), Stovepipe Wells (From the East).
Phones: Panamint has no phones (unless its an emergency). Cell service is available in Death Valley.
$$$$$$: Panamint takes MC/VISA/AX and the folding green stuff. Ask for AAA discounts.

Here's a GE 'flight' around the Darwin section.

Panamint Valley is also a military active flyway. The guys out of China Lake use it to dogfight, practice straffing runs on cars travelling the valley, and other low altitude fun. They fly almost everything out there from B52s to F22s.

Thanks for leading this event Andy.

The Darwin loop video you provided looks like a great run!

We'll need to decide on the weekend so we can make plans. Typically later is better as it should/could be cooler. All the times I've been to DV we've camped on the trail; I'm not used to having a base camp. Having a base camp is nice for those who want to stay in a hotel and have the amenities a campground provides. Part of the appeal of DV for us is being away from the pavement and people that go with it.

Death Valley National Park is one of our favorite places to go. It's a must-visit location if you've never been there.

As the National Park says, DV is a Land of Extremes

Hottest, Driest, Lowest: A superlative desert of streaming sand dunes, snow-capped mountains, multicolored rock layers, water-fluted canyons and 3 million acres of wilderness. Home to the Timbisha Shoshone people and to plants and animals unique to the harshest desert.

Some pics of a Death Valley trip in Feb 2010 with Jeepers and others on a differnt kind of trip (not "Raptor trails"). Our trip: We met at Ballarat, then we went over Wildrose Rd, then via 190 to Furnace Creek and to Echo Canyon. Through Echo, (rock) waterfalls, then camped on the far side. North on the Sandy road to Chloride, up to Rhyolite, then beat it down to Stovepipe to camp. Next day we went up Marble and Cottonwood canyons.

I hope I didn't confuse anyone when I posted the pics from a previous DV trip. The trip that Andy is planning is NOT a Jeep trail trip. It's a Raptor-specific trip fun for all Raptor owners and passengers!

Hi folks,
I need to get some idea of who's actually going on this vs. just thinking of going.

The options were Sept 24/25/26 or Oct 1/2/3

I have a room booked for both weekends @ Panamint Springs, but we need to decide which one it's going to be.

So, please post up if you're going (and which weekend is better for you) and we can decide on which weekend it will be.
