V2R Race

I'd been wanting to check out the Vegas to Reno race for quite sometime but being that it fell my on the same weekend as my wife's birthday. Figured the last thing my wife would want to do on her birthday weekend would be to go into the middle of the desert and watch a race. So, I wrote it off.

Well a couple of weeks ago she mentioned that she wanted to stay at the Peppermill in Reno for her birthday. I carefully chose the right time to mention the race to her. Much to my surprise her response was "do you want to go check it out? I'd be up for it." I was a bit surprised haha. None the less I immediately requested Friday off of work.

Over the last year, I've become very familiar with the area the race course would be passing through so I mapped out a good location to watch the trucks go by about 5 miles outside pit 15. I wasn't sure if it would work out since BLM does not allow you to be "on the race course" and I didn't know how close was considered on the course. Anyhow, it worked out perfectly. I did a little homework and looked up last years winners time and calculated around when the trophy trucks would be passing through. I cut it a bit close...within 5 minutes of arriving at the spot the leader, Jason Voss, came blasting through lol.

It was a lot of fun and the best part was my wife loved it. So much so, she said she do it again next year.

Oh, and when people say it's a small world it really is! Saturday while hanging out at the pool I ran into Treypal at the Pepparmill pool. I'd had a couple cocktails so I wasn't sure at first but I figured I'd go up and say hi. Sure enough it was him.

Vegas to Reno

I'll go with you next year....

Nice meeting you man. Our flights weren't until Sunday so we stayed a night there after the race. We finished both of our TTs but the girls 7200 popped the engine 40 miles from the finish. It really sucked, I was in the truck and it was the worst feeling in the world. To make it so far and not finish was heartbreaking. Still an awesome time, and there is always next year.

Likewise buddy! I kept on thinking to myself for like 5 minutes "that guy looks really familiar" then it hit me haha. That's great to finish the TT's and that really sucks to get so close and have a mechanical failure. Seeing the race in person and checking out the trucks at the hotel really makes me wish I could win the lotto and race!
