Recently recieved some tree damage and had to order a new tailgate :(. I'm getting it painted but I'm gonna have to swap the parts and badeges from the old one. Anyone have any experience with this. The parts dealer said that swapping the parts is pretty straightforward but I'm worried about the emblems. Is there a good way to remove the emblems from the old tailgate without damaging them and how and what kind of adhesive should I get to reinstall them on the new one? Thanks for any help given

I removed all 3 with a snap-on hook and a hairdryer... The oval and the F150 ones have push in clips and adhesive and, are the hardest to keep the adhesive from getting messed up... The adhesive is like 2 sided foam tape... The Raptor one is all adhesive and seemed to come the easiest and the tape was still good to reuse but, since mine was damaged from the fight it had with a tree stump I had to replace it... I used the adhesive from the Raptor one on the other 2 and it worked good... Been there a year and still looks great...

If you have the reverse camera, the emblem is two pieces. The bottom piece (mounts to tailgate) is bolted to the tailgate. The top piece (Ford emblem) snaps into the bottom piece. you will have to pry off the top Ford emblem which will most likely damage it too bad to reuse. The tabs that snap into the bottom piece are trashed.

If you don't have the reverse camera, the ford emblem is held on by two sided tape. I used a screw driver and placed a rag between the screwdriver and the paint to prevent scratches. It should pry off without a whole lot of effort.

Either way, will need to replace the two sided tape on the new tailgate.

If you have the nameplates off with the adhesive still intact, go to a parts store and get the adhesive spray to help it out. Pref 3M. Or, go get the 3M double-sided tape, pref the grey one, and strip the old tape with a razor and apply it that way. I usually prefer new ones cause they just wont come off, guaranteed.
