Nice comprehensive list. Should be a sticky. One better would be to add links to some of the other threads like the "how to program the BaoFeng" thread. And the antenna thread. And the radio install thread.

I have the KG-UV6D. I like that it is water resistant. I've used it in complete down pours and my buddy dropped it in the mud. No issues.

As for the truck radio I use the tyt9000. Have been happy with it when the antenna is working properly.

Programming baofengs was already linked adding the other threads now thanks for the suggestion.

It should be noted the kenwood TK-790H, (Which I have) will object when you program in frequencys below or above its limits, but will allow it. I have 2 local repeaters in mine at 149mhz range, and it works quite well on them.

Great radio. Get them used for $200-$300.

So can you do ham 144mhz band w/ that radio? I thought it was commercial/emergency only?

Fasteddie: haven't tried to set it that low yet, but it works on the local repeater here on 145.145 like a charm. Software complains but allows you to enter it. I wonder if there is any limitation on what you can enter or just will complain.
