Guys & Gals…had a dead battery this morning because I left the running lights on overnight while my New 2014 SE Black Raptor was parked in a closed garage (I know..duh). The battery was completely dead and when I went to start the truck nothing as is normal with a completely dead battery. I pulled out a battery charger that I have used many times before and it would not work on the truck battery and showed a fault. The fault indicated that the connected battery had a voltage that was “too low” to accept a charge. I have used this charger before and knew that I could let it run for a few seconds, fault out then repeat several times to get the battery back where it would accept a charge. It worked and I was able to start the truck. I disconnected the charger, closed the hood and got into the running vehicle. I put the Raptor into reverse and the truck lurched backwards unlike the normal and slow reverse speed I am used to. I backed out the driveway and put the vehicle into drive and nothing happened. I put the vehicle into park and back to drive and gave it a little more gas and started moving but the truck felt weird. I discovered that my truck was transmission locked into 5th gear and would not move. I tried manual shifting while in drive, manual shifting while in manual. I stopped, started but truck would not unlock from 5th gear. When I tried the manual approach, the 5th gear light would flash and go back to solid. I drove in 5th gear the whole way to my office, about 11 miles to let the battery charge so I could try and restart. I then shut down the truck, restarted several times, took out key, repeat to make sure I had reset any electrical issues and drove the truck around. This worked and the truck transmission returned to normal. I drove the truck on a sales call with everything working normal (About 30 miles) and parked. When I returned to the truck and tried auto start, the truck acted like the battery was dead again. I got in the truck expecting a dead battery but the truck cranked like normal. I drove back to office, stopped truck, tried auto start, started working again and has been since. WTF? I know the modern vehicles are tied into the electrical system but WTF? Good news, I got LIVE TV playing on my nav screen today! (Another Thread)
