*********. The Lightning never had a "Mustang-sourced V8".

Gen 1 had a 351W which was never offered in a Mustang those same years. The Gen 2, which had the side exhaust they mention, had a 5.4L 2V engine, which was never offered in any Mustang- ever.

You're definitely correct on the 5.4. But as I recall, my 2001 Lightning was a 3 valve.

3V 5.4L engines didn't debut until 2004 and the 11th gen F150s. All 10th gen F150s had 5.4L engines were 2V engines.

The L 5.4SC ran from what - ’99 & ’00 at 360hp and ’01-’04 with 380 hp. all were 2v 5.4’s. ’01 and up changed to different wheels but the ’99-’03(?) I think it was late ’03 had only 4 threads on the spark plug holes. ’04 all had 2x the spark plug threads. adding boost sometimes resulted in spitting spark plugs, a potentially pricey fix.

I had the ’01, and I really liked that truck.

Having a Rap now makes me wonder what F/P could do in ’19 or ’20 and what a Lightning would be like.

would it be awd or 4x2? With stability and traction control, I can see a case for either.
an awd Lightning with the 10 speed trans. Alas, not likely given the current focus of Ford.

03/04 trucks had 8 threads. It was the earlier trucks with the issue spitting plugs. That motor needed to be sure everything was tongued correctly.

I just sold my 04 when I got my raptor. 172k original motor and trans.
